When is the ‘best time to have a newborn shoot?’ This is probably the first question I get asked by all my families, so I thought a quick blog would be helpful.

Firstly, why have a newborn shoot?

Babies first year is packed full of wonderful developmental milestones.

Each of those milestones should be captured and enjoyed forever but, there is something so precious about capturing the first fresh few weeks.

I love being a London Newborn photographer, you get the privilege of capturing the very early moments of a new families story.

The adoring looks of pure joy.

When is the best time to have a newborn photoshoot?

The best time to have a newborn shoot really depends on the style of newborn shoot you’d love.

Posed studio vs At home

The very posed and wrapped newborn photography usually done within a studio setting, should be done as early as possible usually between the first 7-14 days (even earlier too) when little one is still really sleepy. The earlier you these sessions the better, because little one has been curled up for the last 9 months and it makes is much easier to create those curled up poses.

If you are looking for a relaxed at home session, where you can capture more natural authentic newborn images, then you can have your shoot anytime between 7 days old and 8 weeks.

The earlier you have the session the more sleepy and squishy the baby images, but if you wait a little longer you can capture some gorgeous more alert shots of little one too.

When should I book a newborn session?

I’d recommend starting to look for your newborn photographer well before baby arrives as early as 20 weeks just after your second scan. There are so many different photographers out there it can take time to find the right one for you. Also, newborn photography has increased in popularity and you might find your preferred photographer is booked up to 3 months in advance.

If you are considering a newborn photo shoot, why not book a no obligation call to discuss what you’d love from your precious newborn photographs.
